Outdoors for All
On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, the Maine Public Health Association (MPHA) hosted Enock Glidden for a (virtual) presentation about Outdoors for All. As a lifelong resident of Maine and a disabled adventurer, Enock Glidden has made it his life’s mission to explore the world. He has had the opportunity to experience a wide array of physical activities. From downhill skiing to scaling the face of El Capitan, he has gleaned firsthand the benefits of outdoor recreation for the disability community. He relishes the opportunity to speak to anyone and everyone about this important aspect of our society and to bring awareness to the need for greater access to our natural world.
Attendees heard stories and insights into the life of Enock, including how his middle school phys. ed. teacher positively impacted and supported his physical activity feats, and what outdoor recreation has meant for his mental and physical well-being. He also showed a short film of his ascent of El Capitan.
This webinar was hosted by Maine Public Health Association and co-sponsored by the Natural Resources Council of Maine, Southern Maine Conservation Collaborative, Maine Conservation Alliance, Sierra Club Maine, and the Appalachian Mountain Club.
