March 6, 2024 (Augusta, ME) – Experts at the Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM) were recently recognized for the important roles they play in catalyzing community action on climate change and contributing to practical climate solutions for an equitable clean energy transition. The experts have been appointed to a variety of advisory committees and working groups that are focused on implementing the bold goals in Maine’s Climate Action Plan.
- Climate & Clean Energy Outreach Coordinator Josh Caldwell has been appointed as Vice Chair of the Public Transit Advisory Council and has joined the Advisory Group for the development of Maine’s Clean Transportation Roadmap for Medium- and Heavy-duty Vehicles. In these roles, he’ll help to lead efforts to reduce emissions in the state’s most polluting sector by building a modern transportation system that provides Mainers with healthier, more affordable options for getting around. Josh also serves on the Maine Climate Council’s Transportation Working Group that will recommend strategies for reducing emissions from transportation in the updated Climate Action Plan.
- Sustainable Maine Program Manager Vanessa Berry has been appointed to serve on the Maine Climate Council’s Materials Management Task Force that was created to bring solid waste management strategies into future climate planning efforts to complement the existing strategies outlined in the State’s four-year Climate Action Plan. Vanessa also serves on the Board of Directors for the Maine Resource Recovery Association, E2Tech, and the Maine Environmental Education Association.
- Climate & Clean Energy Director Jack Shapiro has been appointed to serve on the Maine Climate Council’s Energy Task Force focused on evaluating and recommending short- and long-term mitigation strategies to reduce gross and net annual greenhouse gas emissions from Maine’s energy sector. Jack helped lead the successful passage of a 2023 landmark law to boost responsible development of offshore wind in the Gulf of Maine with strong protections for wildlife and provisions for good-paying jobs.
“We’re proud of the role that NRCM’s experts are playing in developing Maine’s climate action strategies that are serving as a model for the rest of the nation,” said NRCM CEO Rebeccah Sanders. “Backed by the passion of more than 30,000 supporters statewide, our experts use their deep knowledge of climate policies to develop practical solutions that reflect the unique needs of our rural state.”
