My Maine This Week: Fall In To Winter Photo Contest Fall Photos

The Natural Resources Council of Maine recently hosted a “Fall In To Winter” photo contest, with 22 people from around Maine sharing their gorgeous Maine photos. Here are all of the photos from the Fall category. The winner of the “Fall Favorite” in this photo contest was Betty Olivolo of Kittery, Maine with her photo titled, “Lobster Life on Moores Island Lane, Kittery Point, Maine.” Congratulations, Betty! Gerard Monteux’s photo "SSP Fall" “Sandy Stream Pond, in the shadow of Mt. Katahdin, always provides a terrific photo-op. On this morning I got the perfect confluence of foliage, calm water, and some wicked-looking clouds moving in.”
1. Heather Newton Brown shares her photo of Beaver Pond, Sebago Lake Camping area, Naples, with my dog, Lisandro. She writes, “We love to come and walk here after the park has closed. Because Lisandro is reactive to other dogs and strangers, we come early morning, and have lots of space to avoid others if we need to, although we never see anyone else early morning. The morning I took this shot the pond was particularly calm and magical, as evidenced by the gorgeous fall colors and soft mist rising from the pond.”

Heather Newton Brown captured this photo on Long Lake in Bridgton. “This was the last paddle we took in 2021 — my husband packed dinner and asked me on an after-work date.”
Alicia Heyburn writes of her photo of high tide at Merriconegan Farm on Middle Bay in Harpswell, “This property is owned and maintained by Harpswell Heritage Land Trust. The boat house is getting easier and easier to access — by boat — as the sea level rises. On this calm day in early December, it appears to be floating above the water.”

Jennifer MacDonald snapped this photo in Pond Cove in Cape Elizabeth in late October. “It was sunset, and again shows how every day looks different. I especially love the lichen in the foreground and the delicate salt spray from the wave hitting the rock in the center of the image.”

Heather Newton Brown took this photo at Raymond Beach on Sebago Lake. “Because I am out early, walking my dog before work each morning, we often chase sunrises. I knew it was going to be spectacular from the glimpse I could see from my home, so we drove quickly and safely to the beach and were not disappointed.”
Peggy Yaeger writes, “While visiting relatives in Aroostook County, I found this beautiful reflection on Portage Lake in early October.” She calls this photo “Reflection on Portage Lake.”
Peggy Yaeger calls this photo, “Autumn Sunbeams.” She writes, “My sister took me to one of her favorite spots close to her house near Skowhegan. I took this picture at Robin's Hill Overlook.”
Jennifer MacDonald took this photo in Robinson Woods in Cape Elizabeth in October 2021 and writes, “Our street abuts this Cape Elizabeth Land Trust property, and has been a haven for me for many years, especially these last two pandemic years.”
Betty Olivolo calls her photo, “Splendor on Spruce Creek,” and writes, “Fall color around every bend on my neighborhood walk.”
Brien Richards writes about his photo, “Taken at Step Fall Preserve near Newry/Sunday River on October 10, 2021. It was an overcast day, which saturates the foliage colors. A bit of a climb up, but worth the view. The experience is totally different in the spring with lots of rushing water.”
