“I was looking for Native American artifacts along a farm field in North Fryeburg, Maine, when I heard the distinctive squawks of Sandhill Cranes coming from a nearby field. I went back to my truck for my camera and luckily I had brought a 150-600 mm lens with me that day. I put it on the camera and drove over to the field from which I heard the sounds. Knowing how furtive they can be, I got out of the truck and walked slowly toward them across the potato field. They were instantly aware of me, so I turned on the camera and took a few shots as they stood. Then I walked slowly toward them and took more shots as they took flight and cleared the tree line,” Tom McLaughlin of Lovell, Maine
