“In celebration of today’s 20th anniversary since the removal of the Edwards Dam in Augusta, I wanted to share these photos. These are two sturgeon jumping out of the Kennebec River right in front of the site of the former Edwards Dam. I remember clearly being on the banks of the river 20 years ago this morning, with more than 1,000 people, to witness history as the dam was breached for the first time in more than 160 years. This had never happened before, and it was exciting to be there to hear the bells, the cheers, and see the free-flowing river for the first time in decades.” Photos by NRCM Public Affairs Manager Beth Comeau of Richmond, Maine.
