“We couldn’t be more excited that our milkweed patch, which had 13 monarch caterpillars eating milkweed leaves now has at least eight monarch butterflies! They showed up at around the right time to be from the caterpillars! There were three more caterpillars that disappeared last week and must be in their chrysalises now, so we should have a few more showing up later on. My husband David is so excited that he runs from the backyard to the front yard trying to count them all and not double count or miss one! We have milkweed in the backyard and cone flowers and liatris, all of which they like for nectar. I’m hoping they found good places to roost tonight with this hard downpour!” – Photos by NRCM member Leda Beth Gray of Blue Hill, Maine
