About Jayne
Maine native Jayne Winters has been an animal and nature lover for as long as she can remember. “Taking pictures” as a kid has evolved into a greater awareness and appreciation of Mother Nature, as well as the desire to create memories. She attributes both of these interests in part to her dad, Bill Mincher, who worked as a photojournalist for the Bangor Daily News prior to becoming contributing editor of the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife magazine (1958 – 1981).
Jayne’s first camera was an Agfa (from Dad), but years later – after using her husband’s Nikon – she took several adult ed classes and a black and white film development course offered at the University of Maine at Augusta. The age of digital cameras, however, resulted in the purchase of a Canon PowerShot about 12 years ago, upgraded twice, most recently to an SX60 HS.
Following 13 years in the health care field and more than 20 years at the Maine Department of Marine Resources, she retired in June 2015 after 10 years with the Maine State Board of Nursing. In addition to photography, Jayne serves on the Board of Maine Friends of Animals and is a choir member/newsletter editor of South China Community Church; she enjoys travel, kayaking, gardening, reading, genealogy, and time at “camp” on Sebec Lake.
