We love it when longtime NRCM member Sam Horine of Skowhegan, Maine, shares his photos with us — many of which were taken of or from this red canoe.
Sam’s travels for this photo took him to Belgrade, right on Route 27. This is a beautiful and familiar spot to any of us who travel that road regularly, but unfortunately, Sam reports that there is a milfoil problem there and upstream toward one of the Belgrade Lakes, Long Pond.
If you are someone who boats in Maine, it’s important to check your motor and your boat to ensure that it is free of milfoil before putting the boat into a waterbody. Milfoil, even in very small pieces, can quickly spread through the water. Learn more about milfoil and how to prevent spreading it at mainelakes.org/invasives/what-is-milfoil/.
