In this issue of Maine Environment, we feature a story about the 30-year legacy of our former Forests & Wildlife Director Cathy Johnson, who retired earlier this year. You can read the full version of the story online. Cathy helped protect Moosehead Lake from a massive development proposal by Plum Creek, worked for many years to protect the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, and in the final years of her tenure at NRCM, worked with local citizens, Roxanne Quimby, Lucas St. Clair, and others to establish the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. Learn more about Cathy’s passionate and consistent advocacy for Maine’s North Woods for three decades at the Natural Resources Council of Maine.
In this issue you can also read about a clean water victory in the Maine Legislature before it had to adjourn abruptly in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, how the fossil fuel and plastic industries are exploiting the pandemic for financial gain, and how NRCM and others are working to create a cleaner transportation future for Maine.
This issue also includes our 2020 Explore Maine publication, full of great places to explore, books by NRCM supporters, music, art, & poetry, and more.
