    Location: Old Town, Penobscot County

    Description: Two trails (one 0.15 miles and the other 0.24 miles) within the seven-mile trail system within the Hirundo Wildlife Refuge

    Activities:  Hiking, photography, picnicking, wildlife watching

    Why it’s special: This trail is special because it meets ADA standards for accessibility so that more people can enjoy nature along these trails. The surfaces are hard packed and wide enough that wheelchairs can be used on the trails, and as you can see in the photo, there are guide ropes along the entire trail length so that people with varying visual or physical abilities can more easily navigate the trails.

    Beth is a graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in child development and family relations. She came to work at NRCM in 1996. Beth led the youth and young adult program at Camp Mechuwana, the United Methodist Camp of Maine, "retiring" from that position in 2010. She enjoys photographing Maine's wild and beautiful places. Beth lives in Richmond with her husband, Chris, and their two dogs.
