A state study identified this 35-acre property along the eastern shore of Sebago Lake as one the eight most outstanding beaches in all Maine’s organized towns. The high-quality sand beach extends for 980 feet along the shore, fringed by stands of towering white pine interspersed with hardwoods. Given the extensive amount of development along much of Sebago Lake’s shoreline, this beachfront property is remarkably unspoiled.
Using a Land for Maine’s Future program grant, the state acquired this property to improve recreational access to Sebago Lake, which at 8 miles wide and 11 miles long is Maine’s second largest lake. Its clear waters provide the drinking water supply for Portland and recreational opportunities for area residents and visitors.
The Bureau of Parks and Lands now holds title to this parcel, leasing it to the Town of Raymond, which manages it as Tassel Top Park. The beach area has picnic tables and a secured swimming area but no lifeguard. The local Boy Scout Troop manages a nature trail leading through the woods (with a map available at the trailhead). Day and season passes for the park are available for a fee.
