Location: Acadia National Park, Hancock County
Description: To hike the Penobscot Mountain—Sargent Mountain loop, go to the Jordan Pond House and walk behind the building, to the left, to find the trailhead marker. The trail winds through woods, over streams, crosses the famous carriage roads, and includes some rock climbing—be prepared to pull yourself through a few tight squeezes. Your effort will be rewarded with beautiful views.
Activities: Hiking, swimming
Favorite Season(s) to Visit: Summer and fall
What’s Special About It: This is the kind of trail that has helped make Acadia National Park such a special place.
Tips: Don’t let the breath-taking views distract you from following the trail markers! We love taking a swimsuit along for a freshwater dip at Sargent Pond. Enjoy sweeping ocean views on the hike back.
