Roberts Farm Preserve

Roberts Farm Preserve is a lovely 165-acre property located just south of Lake Pennesseewassee in Norway, Maine. Formerly the site of a dairy farm, the property now houses a 7.5-mile trail network that winds through pastures, orchards, streams, stone walls, and woodlands. Western Foothills Land Trust purchased Roberts Farm in 2009 with help from the Land for Maine’s Future program and has managed it ever since.

The preserve is an excellent spot for cross-country skiing. There are several loops ranging from easy to high difficulty that are usually about 12 feet wide, with an 8-foot-wide skate lane and a 4-foot-wide classic skiing lane. A number of trails are also open for snowshoers to enjoy. There’s even a warming hut on the preserve, which is a great place to rest up before heading back out to enjoy even more of what Roberts Farm has to offer. When the snow melts away, the preserve’s trail network is a great location for hikers, mountain bikers, and birdwatchers.

The Libby Trail at Roberts Farm is universally accessible and leads to a viewpoint of beautiful Pennesseewassee Lake and its surrounding area. The Oxford Hills School District partners with Western Foothills Land Trust to operate an experiential learning program at the preserve. Roberts Farm Preserve also contains a large garden and an information center located near the parking lot.

Directions: From Norway, simply head west on ME-118 W (Lake Street) for about a mile-and-a-half before turning left onto Roberts Road.
