With support from the Land for Maine’s Future program and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife (IF&W) acquired an undeveloped parcel bordering Jacob Buck Pond to provide permanent boat access. The new site, on a Great Pond that had no previous public access, provides a launch and a parking area that can accommodate eight vehicles.
Jacob Buck Pond contains moderate to high-value fisheries for warm water species, and may be stocked in the future with splake. Anglers from Bucksport and the Bangor/Brewer area use this pond year-round, and families can enjoy warm weather swimming and boating. Access is managed by the IF&W, which received a grant from the USFWS Sport Fish Restoration Program to improve the site.
