I hope that you and your families are safe and healthy. At the Natural Resources Council of Maine, we are doing everything that we can to keep our staff safe and healthy as well, while continuing with the strong work that the nature of Maine needs from us.
With positive cases of COVID-19 increasing in Maine and across the nation, and with widespread school closures now in force, we have decided to close our Augusta-based office to the public until further notice. Our staff will be primarily working at home in the coming weeks. We will still be available for your questions and thoughts via email.
The Maine Legislature announced that they will adjourn after this Tuesday’s session. On Tuesday, they will be considering bills related to the coronavirus and other critical services during this time. They will also work on passage of the governor’s amended budget. The Legislature may reconvene later this summer, or maybe not until after the November election. We will keep you updated as we learn more.
We are all in uncharted territory, but please know that NRCM is staying abreast of the latest news and advice about COVID-19. Meanwhile, we will continue to work on policies and actions that address climate change, promote renewable energy, safeguard clean water and healthy forests, and help create better systems to manage our waste stream.
I hope that you can take the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature in the coming days. It provides solace in times like these, which is one of the many reasons we partner with you to protect it. Please send us your blogs and your photos of your favorite Maine places. And, please stay connected with us through social media by clicking on the icons below. We look forward to seeing you there until our paths can cross in person once again.
All the best,
Lisa Pohlmann, NRCM CEO
