NRCM staff, along with Atlantic Salmon Federation’s Jeff Reardon, led a paddle to explore why the Sandy is vital for the recovery of Atlantic salmon and other sea-run fish.
May 11, 2024: Bird Walk at Perham Stream with Jeff and Allison Wells
NRCM’s bird experts and authors of the book, Maine’s Favorite Birds, Jeff and Allison Wells led a leisurely bird walk. Participants welcomed newly arriving warblers like Northern Parula, Black-throated Green, and the dazzling Blackburnian as White-throated Sparrows and other species serenaded us along the trail.

June 12, 2024: Alpine Plant Hike, Saddleback
NRCM staff and Alpine plant expert Glen Mittelhauser from the Maine Natural History Observatory led this guided hike at Saddleback. Glen quite literally wrote the book on the plants of Baxter State Park (and others) and is a wonderful teacher and guide. Please note this is a fairly rugged hike (1,620 feet in elevation gain).
June 15, 2024: Paddle the Kennebec with NRCM

NRCM, Sierra Club Maine, the Nez Perce Tribe, the Wabanaki Alliance, the Penobscot Nation, the Atlantic Salmon Federation, and the Downeast Salmon Federation hosted a showing of Covenant of the Salmon People, a 60-minute documentary portrait of the Nez Perce Tribe as they continue to carry out their ancient promise to protect the Chinook salmon.
