NRCM has gotten electricity from various green power offers over several years, but in 2012 we decided to get directly involved in increasing renewable power. Partnering with ReVision Energy, one of Maine’s largest solar energy companies, NRCM became part of an innovative financing arrangement that led to an 11 KW solar array on our roof in Augusta!
ReVision owns the solar panels, and NRCM has a 20-year contract to buy the power, which is essential for financing the project. We’ll have the option to buy the project outright. It will provide about 20% of our electricity, and we’ll “net-meter” with the grid so the power is fully used even on weekends. For more than a 20 years, NRCM has been fighting for clean energy laws and investments to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Harnessing renewable sources like the sun, wind, wood, and waters is a good concept, and we’re glad to be one small part of making it a reality.
