And earlier this month, the Portland Press Herald editorial board quoted NRCM Climate & Clean Energy Director Jack Shapiro in their editorial in support of offshore wind for Maine.
Read this Bangor Daily News story about how Maine seabirds like the Black Guillemot, is helping scientists learn about mercury levels in the environment, including fish. Black Guillemots are some of the birds that NRCM members and staff see each year on our annual puffin cruise to Eastern Egg Rock aboard the Hardy Boat.

July 1st was the 25th anniversary of the breaching of the Edwards Dam on the Kennebec River in Augusta. The Natural Resources Council of Maine and our Kennebec Coalition partners, along with many others, were there to watch the freeflowing river for the first time in more than 100 years. The local radio station celebrated this anniversary with a news story about the recovery of the river.
This year was another record year for alewives in Maine, thanks to improved fish passage.
The Portland Press Herald did a story on this winter’s storms and sewage overflows into Maine waters due to the storms. NRCM Senior Director of Advocacy Pete Didisheim is quoted at the end of the story.
