This property’s key feature is an overlook located right off the Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway. With breathtaking views of the surrounding lakes, mountains, and forests, this overlook is one of the most spectacular in all of New England. It is a popular spot for photographers and artists eager to capture the natural beauty of the Rangeley Lakes area. The overlook faces west, making it a great spot to take in a gorgeous sunset. A new parking lot that can accommodate roughly 40 cars has been constructed right at the overlook, making a visit to this site more convenient than ever.
Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust purchased 512 acres of land right next to the overlook in 2008 after receiving support from the Land for Maine’s Future program in 2007. They purchased this land to help ensure that the views from the overlook remain as spectacular for future generations as they are today. Those 512 acres also house wetlands and riparian habitats that are home to a wide array of wildlife species, as well as a section of Bemis Stream, one of three tributaries to nearby Mooselookmeguntic Lake. This property lies right next to a section of the Appalachian Trail, which winds up to the top of nearby Spruce Mountain. Access to Bemis Stream is available from Bemis Track.
