We are disappointed in today’s decision about Plum Creek’s development proposal on lands around Moosehead Lake.
We respect the court’s decision.
Through the active engagement of thousands of Maine people the final plan was significantly improved from the original plan, though it remains the largest development plan in the state’s history and there remain many concerns.
Today’s decision rezones forestland around Moosehead Lake, but does not approve any specific development plans.
If Plum Creek decides to move forward with its real estate development, it will have to apply for specific permits, and the development would have to be reviewed and approved before construction could begin.
We know that many Maine people have expressed concerns about Plum Creek’s development proposal; there will be additional opportunities for public comment if and when the company files permit applications.
Any development would need to comply with laws that require no “undue adverse impact” to existing uses and to natural resources, including water, wildlife and recreation in the area.
