BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Health experts, elected officials, and conservation leaders were among people at the federal building in Bangor Thursday calling for the removal of the head of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Maine and 16 other states are suing the Trump administration over an EPA plan to roll back and revise emission standards for vehicles.
The protestors say EPA Chief, Scott Pruitt is trying to dismantle vital protections.
There are 11 ongoing federal inquiries into Pruitt’s security practices, travel expenses and ethical violations.
Senators Susan Collins and Angus King have said Pruitt’s the wrong person to head the EPA.
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree has called for his resignation.
Jim Glavine, tour guide for Oli’s Trolley in Acadia says, “People from all over the world come here to marvel at the natural resources, the clean water, the free flowing streams, the beautiful forests and the ocean along our coastline here. If we allow Scott Pruitt to continue to follow the role that he has chosen and has exhibited to us over the last 15 months, we should expect that our natural environment will continue to be in jeopardy.”
175 members of Congress have called for Pruitt to be removed from office.
But several Republicans support Pruitt, praising his accomplishments.
