Privacy Policy of the Natural Resources Council of Maine
This Privacy Policy applies to the website(s), ecommunications tools, mobile app, and all electronic-based platforms (“the Site”), including versions optimized for viewing on a wireless or tablet device, and all other interactive features, services, and communications published, distributed, and managed by the Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM, “we,” “us,” or “our”), regardless of how accessed and/or used. We encourage you to consult the “Privacy” link during each visit to the Site, as it may have been amended between visits. Your continued use of the Site constitutes your agreement to the Policy, as it may be amended from time to time. Which Information Gets Collected NRCM is committed to Internet privacy; you can visit most areas of our website and other platforms without revealing any of your personal information. When you interact with an NRCM page or account, including on NRCM’s social media such as Facebook, we may collect personal information, defined as any information that can identify you as an individual: your name, email address, telephone number, postal address, credit card, billing, and/or contact information. Once received, we automatically create a user profile linked to that personal information. If the same personal information is provided in connection with future donations, actions, or activities on the Site, such actions will be added to that user profile. The following list includes the most common ways that you may directly provide your personal information to us.
Registration. You may choose to subscribe to NRCM e-newsletters, event invitations, and other NRCM mailing lists. Doing so may require you to enter your email address and certain other personal information. It is your responsibility to review and update your information at any time. If it’s your first time signing in, you will need to provide your email address at the log-in page so we can send you a password.
Action Network. To send a message to elected government officials and decision-makers using our online Action Network, you will need to identify yourself by name, address, email address, phone number or other personal information. This is necessary for your message to be effective; in addition, many government officials require it. NRCM may use this personal information to contact you with the latest issue alerts and updates. Please be aware that comments sent to federal agencies may be made available publicly, often via the web, and will sometimes include the full name and address of the person(s) submitting the comments.
Mobile Application. The NRCM mobile application, which a user can choose to download onto a mobile device, accesses the camera, location, and other features of the mobile device to provide photos for the photo gallery section of the Site. Only the image, geographic location (if provided), and author names are retained by the Site. Other information collected from the device is not recorded or used.
Mobile Messaging. NRCM may at some point in the future use mobile messaging, at which time you will have the opportunity to opt in so that you can be kept up to date on breaking news and the latest actions. You would do that by emailing nrcm@nrcm.org.
“Tell Your Friends.” We always hope that you will forward our action items, news, and other information. To do that, forward an article, you may be required to enter your name, email address, and the email address(es) of your intended recipient(s). Please note that NRCM includes your name and email address when we send your message.
Contests. NRCM occasional runs contests and raffles through our Site, accompanied by a set of rules, which are clear and state that we do publish winner names, and name, physical address, and email address are collected. This information is treated with the same privacy that we provide to our donors.
Donations and Gifts; Secure Transactions. In order to make a donation, including in someone else’s name using our Site, you will be required to input certain personal information about yourself and, if notification of a gift in honor of someone else is sent electronically, the email of the person to whom the gift is honoring. NRCM will use your personal information and the gift recipient’s personal information, provided by you, for in a manner consistent with our Privacy Policy. By submitting personal information about others, you hereby represent and warrant that you have full authority to do so. Please note that when you donate a one-time or recurring gift to NRCM through our Site, we cannot see or access credit card information. It is transmitted through a secure connection and encrypted. We do not/cannot store your credit card information or in any way keep it on file. We will not disclose any donor information except as necessary to process your donation or as required by law.
Communications Between You and NRCM. When you provide NRCM with your email address and mailing address, we may contact you to invite you to become a member of our organization. To choose not to receive these requests, please contact us at nrcm@nrcm.org. Note also that if you have chosen to receive any of our publications by email, you are able at any time to unsubscribe by clicking a link that appears in the email publication itself or by visiting our Unsubscribe page.
Additional Information NRCM Collects; Cookies and Tracking Mechanisms. Sometimes we collect information about you without your submitting it. For example, we use cookies to prepopulate forms for users, to auto-populate forms, and to track user patterns on the Site. These cookies help us understand how users are using our Site and which pages are of greatest use and interest. The information in the cookie includes a user’s IP address and is transmitted to and stored by Google. You may at any time delete any cookies by using the option in your Internet or mobile browser or by deleting the cookies directly from your hard drive or mobile device.
Open Rates, Click-throughs, IP Addresses. NRCM tracks email open rates, click-throughs, and the IP address of Site users to measure the success of communications and to and discourage fraudulent uses.
Web Beacons. These allow us to track the when and how many times visitors access particular parts of the Site. NRCM may use web beacons so that we can compile aggregated statistics relating to Site operations. We prohibit web beacons on our Site from being used by third parties to collect or access your personal information.
Analytics and Online Advertising. NRCM uses Google Analytics to track a wide range of behavioral data regarding our Site, including social media. We may at some point opt to use Google’s Interest-based advertising or third-party audience data (such as news media) to gain insights into our website visitation and so that we can adjust ad campaign strategies. In addition to Google Analytics, NRCM also uses Deep Log Analyzer so that we can further refine data gathered through the Site.
Opting Out of Google Analytics. Please note that you can modify your Ads Settings or download this browser extension to opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and any associated advertising placement and tracking features. It is your responsibility to learn about how Google Analytics may use your data; to do so, review its policy entitled “How Google uses data when you use our partners’ sites or apps” located at this link.
Opting Out of Cookies and Geo Tracking. Please note that you can use the settings of your Internet or mobile browser so that your computer notifies you every time a cookie is being sent; it’s up to you to turn off cookies, if you prefer not to use them. Learn more by checking your browser Help menu or the vendor documentation for your specific software to learn the correct way to modify cookies on your computer. Keep in mind that if you choose to turn off cookies, you may not have access to many features that make your browsing of our Site more enjoyable; without cookies, some of our services may not function properly. Please be aware that if you choose to use our Site without changing your settings, you are consenting to NRCM’s use of cookies and other tools. Also, if you prefer that we not collect data about your geographic location, it is your responsibility to disable the technology that transmits this information.
Use/Sharing of Your Information. Your right to privacy is important to us. NRCM does not sell, exchange, or otherwise share your email address or telephone number with any other organization. NRCM may sell or exchange names and mailing information with a like-minded group. In each instance, the list is provided for a one-time use and is sent directly to a mailing house, not the organization. NRCM members may opt out of this or similar rentals/exchanges by contacting Member Services at support@nrcm.org or (800) 287-2345. You also may mail your instructions to: Member Services, NRCM, 3 Wade St., Augusta, ME 04330. NRCM will only release your personal information if required by law, such as to comply with a court order or subpoena.
Deactivation of Accounts. If you decide to terminate or deactivate your account, NRCM may retain your personal information for a “commercially reasonable” amount of time for backup, archival, and/or audit purposes.
Employment. If you are seeking employment with NRCM, you may decide to submit, through our Site or otherwise, personal information (including your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, and other personal information requested on our online and offline forms, as well as an electronic or paper copy of your resume/CV). Information submitted to us for such a purpose is considered strictly private; it will be viewed by NRCM only to determine your qualifications as a prospective employee.
Other Websites. NRCM does sometimes link to outside websites. Should you decide to visit any of these unaffiliated websites linked to or from the NRCM Site (including news sites Twitter, Facebook, or other social media sites), you are subject to that entity’s own privacy policies. NRCM has no input or control over those sites, and we do not monitor them. It is your responsibility to review the privacy policies of all third-party websites before you visit them. NRCM is careful about sites we link to from our Site; however, we cannot necessarily review all of the sites linked to our Site. We make no representations or warranties as to the privacy practices or content of any sites linked to this Site.
International Use. The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to meet requirements of the laws and regulations of the United States. Given the global nature of the Internet, NRCM cannot ensure that the Site is appropriate, or may be viewed or used, outside the U.S. Please also note that databases and other services associated with the Site are located in the U.S. When you send us your data, you consent to its transfer to and storage within the U.S. Irrespective of the country in which you live or from which you access the Site, you authorize NRCM to use your personal information in the United States and any other country where NRCM may operate. Access to the Site from countries or territories where such access is illegal or contrary to applicable rules or regulations is prohibited. If you are accessing the Site from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative, and you are responsible for compliance with local laws, rules, and regulations.
Children’s Privacy. NRCM’s Site is not targeted toward children under age 13, nor do we knowingly request information from that demographic. We ask that you not provide any personal information to us for any reason unless you are at least 13 years of age or older; please make this policy known to your children. Should NRCM learn that we have incidentally collected any personal information from children under 13, we will use commercially reasonable efforts to delete such information from our databases. Consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, if a child under 13 has provided personal information to us through the Site without verifiable parental consent, a parent or guardian may inform us at nrcm@nrcm.org; we will use commercially reasonable efforts to delete such information, subject to applicable law and this Privacy Policy.
California Privacy Rights. NRCM does not track its users over time and across third-party websites to provide targeted advertising; therefore, we do not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals.
Notice Procedures. The purpose of this is Privacy Policy is to provide a comprehensive summary of how NRCM collects, uses, and shares your personal information. Please send all Privacy Policy-related communications to nrcm@nrcm.org or the Natural Resources Council of Maine, Membership Services, 3 Wade Street, Augusta, ME 04330. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to receive all legally required notices regarding this Privacy Policy or any privacy or security breaches relating to the Site at the email address you use to contact the Site.
Governing Law. You agree that NRCM’s Privacy Policy and your use of this Site shall be governed in all respects by the laws of the State of Maine. Any dispute relating to it and to your use of this Site shall be resolved solely in the state or federal courts located in Augusta, Maine.
