Location: Brunswick, Cumberland County
Description: Tidal bay along the Midcoast that attracts birds of all sorts. Waterfowl hunters are drawn to the variety and numbers of ducks.
Activities: Lots of activities allowed, but I find it a great place for waterfowl hunting, which includes identifying and admiring the beauty of the ducks.
Favorite Season(s) to Visit: Fall—waterfowl hunting season
Why It’s Special: I have many great memories of hunting on Maquoit Bay, with good friends and my trusty dogs, who have also been very good retrievers.
Tips: I cannot share these—my hunting friends would not be happy!
Directions: Again, I can’t share my secrets, but some people put in at Mere Point Boat Launch, which provides all-tide deep-water access to the northern part of Casco Bay. It’s located about 6 miles from the south end of Maine Street. You can also visit Maquoit Bay Conservation Land on Bunganuc Road in Brunswick, which was protected in part with funding from the Land for Maine’s Future program.
