“The first photo is of Northern Island and clouds reflected in the calm waters of Tenants Harbor, where I’ve had many happy times starting at age four, when I sailed there on the family sloop. A campaign is under way to buy and protect neighboring High Island in Tenants Harbor, with help from Maine Coast Heritage Trust. The second photo is of the tidal Medomak River in Waldoboro as it wends it way to Muscongus Bay and the open ocean. The river is famous for its clams, a $1 million annual business in Waldoboro, where conservation work is part of the town’s license requirements. A coalition of groups has been working on identifying sources of pollution and improving water quality.”—Photos by NRCM member Steve Cartwright of Waldoboro, Maine
