Beauty in the Back Yard
“The motif for this selection is that all these photos were taken on our property. Our ‘back yard’ consists of some sixty-five acres of meadow and woods, bordered by Martin Stream and located in North Fairfield. The farmhouse dates to the 1790s. Neighbors still take the hay every summer. After almost thirty years, we haven’t yet seen everything, but it’s not for lack of trying. Thanks to NRCM for inviting us to submit these photos. Thanks especially to my partner, Susan Allein, who offers encouragement and good judgment, and who even provided the camera! It’s a Panasonic Lumix FZ-40, and it’s very patient with me.” —Photos by NRCM member Richard Flanagan of Fairfield, Maine
